In Defence of Animals,India or IDA India as it is popularly known, celebrated its 10th years of service to animals in a unique way, for the welfare of street animals and for a healthier Human society. The celebration was held on Sunday 29th October 2006 at 10.00 a.m. at Audio Visual Hall of King George School, Dadar, Mumbai.
To commemorate the first decade in service to animals, IDA have initiated a "Mass Anti-Rabies Vaccination Drive", for street dogs, mainly in the suburbs of Mumbai, for a period of 8 days from 29th October 2006 to 5th November 2006. IDA also started a “Free Mobile Clinic for Street Animals” on the occasion.
The Chief Guest at the function was Colonel J.C.Khanna, Secretary of Mumbai SPCA, who also inaugurated the Free Mobile Clinic and flagged of the Mass Anti-Rabies vaccination drive .
IDA’s priority is to take a strong step towards working for the eradication of rabies by a Mass Anti-Rabies Vaccination Programme in Mumbai City which will benefit not only the dogs but also humans. On it 10th Anniversary, as a mark of celebration of the Anti-Rabies movement, IDA’s Volunteers and Doctors vaccinated 300 dogs in Antop Hill and Dharavi, on the first day itself. .
IDA has three centres at Deonar, Vashi and Neral (Matheran) where 600 dogs and cats are sterilized and vaccinated every month. IDA also renders treatment to innumerable ill or injured animals that are brought in by its 3 ambulances.
