IDA Roundup August 2009
Our monthly roundups get you upto speed with whats been happening at IDA every month.
Repairs To Vashi Center
After a lot of follow up by Committee Members Naina Athale and Sonali Billimoria the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corportion, took up the work of repairs to the Vashi centre near Kopri Gaon. Combined with some minor sprucing up by IDA the center looks neat and tidy. A place fit for our animal friends.
Access Road Washed Out At Panvel Center
The access road to our Panvel center was washed out by heavy rains bringing work to a standstill. The dogs inside were released with great difficulty and no further lot was brought in. Lets hope the authorities fix the road soon so that we can get back to work.
Abandoned Pets Found
As happens every month we get our share of abandoned pets such as a 2 ½ month old Labrador, a 4 month old Pomeranian, a Lhasa Apso dog and 4 year old blind Pomeranian.
Ambulance Service at night:
The night service started by IDA India in mid June on a trial basis for 3 months, is expected to continue as request has come from the Municipal Corporation to continue with this service.

Fostering Initiatives Taking Root
Due to the diligent efforts of Committee member Mrs. Vivienne Chowdhary and active volunteer Ms.Vishruti Agarwal our fostering activities at the Deonar center has increased significantly. Now small puppies and kittens are getting special care at foster homes of dedicated volunteers increasing their chances of survival and adoption. Plans are on the cards to regularize the fostering system as well. Our heartfelt thanks to all the volunteers who opened their hearts and their homes to foster these little ones.
Shocking Cruelty Case At Navi Mumbai
Committee member Naina Athale encountered a shocking cruelty case at Navi Mumbai where a two dogs were kept in horrible conditions in an apartment. One of the dogs died of neglect and starvation and was the other one was in terrible condition as well. The body of the dead animal was kept in a suitcase by the persons and caused a bad stench which disturbed the neighbors. A cruelty case has been filed with the Police against the couple responsible for this tragedy.
Besides the above interesting (and sometimes gruesome) events our work continued as usual and we are Always In Defense Of Animals.
