Deonar Centre needs repairs

Dear Supporters,

Greetings from In Defense of Animals, India!! 

We are writing to you about our desperate need to repair the kennels at Deonar Centre. Some of our facilities that include 25 rooms for dog sterilization, 10 sheds for maggot wound cases, accident cases, skin disease cases, and so on, 1 shed for blind dogs, 1 puppy pen, 4 cat wards (for sterilization, treatment, kittens and sheltered cats), besides the OPD, Operation Theatre, etc. desperately need repairs. The attached pictures will give you an idea of the situation.

These rooms were constructed by the Municipal Corporation in 1999, and since then we have been doing repairs in patch work as per our financial position, but during the monsoon of 2013 all hell broke loose and there was water every where. We had a tough time keeping the animals from getting wet. In kennels that were partly leaking, the dogs would huddle together in a dry corner, and kennels that were very bad, we had to close down and move the dogs elsewhere.

We do not want a repeat of this in the monsoon of 2014, so we have taken up the project of repairing all the areas that need repairs. We have taken quotations from different contractors, negotiated with them and finally it appears that we will need a huge amount of Rs. 23 lakhs to get this work done. Fortunately we have approx. Rs. 10 lakhs in Fixed Deposits. This amount was a part of the amount that was won by our President Fizzah Shah at one of the T.V. contests, and she had donated this amount to IDA India for such eventualities. Besides you will recall that in December 2013, a group of youngsters had organized a sale of clothes donated by film celebrities and raised Rs. 3 lakhs. This was towards repairs to our centre. So now we need to raise another Rs. 10 lakhs to get this work done properly.

This is an appeal to you supporters, to help us out in this project. You have always stood by us and donated regularly towards our running expenses, but this is an appeal for an additional one time donation towards this repair work. We feel terrible having to keep asking for funds in this manner, but we have no other option but to look up to you for help. Please do consider donating towards this.

But please do inform us that it is towards the \'Repairs Fund\' so that we keep it aside for this work.
